Capcom is responsible for a lot of successful franchises: Mega Man, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Marvel vs. Capcom to name a few. However, none have reached the levels of imagination, innovation, and pure survival-horror driven fun as the Resident Evil franchise. In 1996, Capcom released Resident Evil for Playstation, which would grow into one of the most beloved gaming franchises. As years and consoles would go by, Resident Evil titles would adapt to the gaming landscape with each sequel and story. 2017 marked the release of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, a well-received installment praised for its action oriented gameplay and better emphasis on combat, but Capcom wasn’t done.
As the a console generation was introduced in 2020, Capcom announced Resident Evil Village, the sequel to Biohazard which would release on May 7, 2021. This new adventure is set after the events of the previous entry and uses the same same first-person perspective. Players once again assume the role of Ethan Winters on a mission to save his family in a creepy, haunting, snow-covered Eastern European village – fun. In a forty-plus hour adventure filled with terrifying cinematics, mind boggling puzzles, and intense action sequences, players found themselves just as immersed as they did with Biohazard. The story contains a number of twists and turns, keeping players riveted while unraveling what’s next in the overarching story.
Resident Evil Village received nearly universal acclaim, selling three million units just four days after its release, making it the third fastest selling Resident Evil title. It would go on to become the eighth best-selling game of 2021 and win numerous awards including Game of the Year at the 2021 Golden Joystick Awards.
