Well I’ll be damned! This video apparently made the rounds several years ago, but it’s new to me. I’m always impressed when a bird is able to accurately mimic noises or words. With this particular exotic bird, it seems to be mimicking a classic computer game.

According to a Polygon report, the Azure Jay was rescued from an illegal trafficking operation. It was then relocated to the Criadouro Onca Pintada Jaguar Breeding Project in Brazil where a worker noticed it would sometimes respond to speech with what sound very much like a video game of some kind. It’s reminiscent of a space shooter running on some type of 1980s home computer. You can take a look here – the sound starts 26 seconds in. Leave us a comment if think you might know what game this bird is echoing!

A North Texas native, I was born in '80s and grew up '90s playing a hefty amount of NES, Sega Genesis, and SNES. Some early favorites include Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, Road Rash II, and Super Mario World. As the 3D revolution took hold in the late 1990s, my interest in video games waned while my interest in music grew. Then around 2007, I started recollecting some old favorites which led to discovering classics I missed out on. The casual hobby snowballed into a full-blown obsession, and it became my mission to make up for years of lost gaming.
