One of the more intriguing tales of behind-the-scenes video game drama is the battle for ownership over the classic puzzle game Tetris. Designed by a brilliant young mind while working for the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union, it was initially created simply as a tool to connect coworkers. But once others started catching wind of how good it is, they wanted in on the pie. It’s a story that involves a fiercely addictive game, tense legal battles, and strong Soviet interference.
In 2020, Apple TV+ announced they would be working on a motion picture surrounding these events. Today, we get our first glimpse! The film is directed by Jon S. Baird, starring Taron Egerton and Toby Jones. From what we see in this nearly three minute peek, it looks like a highly dramatized version of the story – but an entertaining take nonetheless. What do you think? Will you be watching?
That actually looks surprisingly good! I shouldn’t be surprised they’d piece everything together…
