Previously hung up in legal limbo, readers can now download the PDF file of a comprehensive visual guide to the Sega Mega Drive (known in North America as the Sega Genesis) for free. Author Darren Doyle worked tirelessly on the nearly 300 page full-color book, which was initially to be sold under his Greyfox Books publishing label. Having already released a similar book about Atari, the next logical step was to tackle other game consoles, such as the 16-bit Mega Drive. When Sega’s legal team decided to step in with a cease-and-decist letter, however, Doyle heeded the warning. The book that began with a successful 2021 Kickstarter campaign was essentially left dead in the water for fear of legal retaliation.

Not one to let a good read go to waste, Darren decided to instead release the book as a completely free download. This is obviously not the ideal situation for the author/publisher, but it’s a better alternative than to never letting it see the light of day. You can download your copy at this link, and if you want to support, you can make a donation via PayPal or browse their other books available for purchase.

About Post Author

Justin Casey

A North Texas native, I was born in '80s and grew up '90s playing a hefty amount of NES, Sega Genesis, and SNES. Some early favorites include Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, Road Rash II, and Super Mario World. As the 3D revolution took hold in the late 1990s, my interest in video games waned while my interest in music grew. Then around 2007, I started recollecting some old favorites which led to discovering classics I missed out on. The casual hobby snowballed into a full-blown obsession, and it became my mission to make up for years of lost gaming.
