When Twisted Metal blasted its way onto the original PlayStation console in 1995, it was met with commercial success and critical praise. The game was a huge evolution for the vehicular combat genre with its over the top characters and arcade-like action. The series saw increased popularity with the 1996 followup Twisted Metal 2, selling 1.74 million copies. And while subsequent releases never seemed to match this level of success – even with a 2012 reboot – many fans still hold the franchise dear to their hearts.

So it was exciting when it was announced in late February, 2022 that a live action Twisted Metal television series would be coming to Peacock, but the news didn’t come without a degree of apprehension. Video game adaptations don’t have the best track record. It’s a trend that’s thankfully reversing, but we’ve learned to celebrate cautiously when hearing these announcements.

But now, we’re getting our first trailer for the upcoming series set to premiere on July 27th.. Sadly, the clip does not reveal much. It depicts the show’s star Anthony Mackie starting his car as he grooves to late 90s hit “Steal my Sunshine” by Len and fires off his onboard machine guns. Then it quickly gives us a look at Sweet Tooth, the series’ creepy, gritty, ice cream truck driving clown. That’s pretty much it. While trailers aren’t always a clear indication of quality, this one left us scratching our heads a bit. Check it out yourself and let us know what you think.

A North Texas native, I was born in '80s and grew up '90s playing a hefty amount of NES, Sega Genesis, and SNES. Some early favorites include Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, Road Rash II, and Super Mario World. As the 3D revolution took hold in the late 1990s, my interest in video games waned while my interest in music grew. Then around 2007, I started recollecting some old favorites which led to discovering classics I missed out on. The casual hobby snowballed into a full-blown obsession, and it became my mission to make up for years of lost gaming.
