They say impersonation is the greatest form of flattery. If that’s true, then Naughty Dog should feel extremely flattered, because a game just hit the UK Nintendo eShop that is perhaps the most blatant ripoffs of The Last of Us, Naughty Dog’s acclaimed zombie apocalyptic third-person action-adventure game. And from what we see and read, it’s not good.

Produced by V.G. Games (short for Virtual Global Games) and released on June 30th, the game is called The Last Hope – Dead Zone Survival, and it’s a budget title through and through. To be fair, there are some key plot differences between the two titles. In The Last Hope, protagonist Brian Lee is sent through time to alter the course of history. But at it’s core, the player shoots through waves of undead from a third-person view while escorting a young girl – whose character design looks strikingly like Ellie from The Last of Us. I suppose it was made for non-PlayStation owners who are unable to play the real deal, but the difference in quality is apparent right away. Don’t take our word for it though, you can watch the trailer for yourself.

A North Texas native, I was born in '80s and grew up '90s playing a hefty amount of NES, Sega Genesis, and SNES. Some early favorites include Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, Road Rash II, and Super Mario World. As the 3D revolution took hold in the late 1990s, my interest in video games waned while my interest in music grew. Then around 2007, I started recollecting some old favorites which led to discovering classics I missed out on. The casual hobby snowballed into a full-blown obsession, and it became my mission to make up for years of lost gaming.
