It’s getting closer! One of the most highly anticipated games in recent years is due to arrive this Spring! In fact, players are so eager to play The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that it took home awards for ‘Most Anticipated Game’ at both The Game Awards and Golden Joystick Awards in 2022 with nominations dating back to 2020. People…are…psyched! Naturally, people are interested in digging up whatever information they can find on the upcoming release. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot to go on at the moment, but save you some effort, we present you with everything we know so far about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Title and Cover Art

As most already know, the game is a direct follow-up to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. After the initial announcement at E3 2021, it was largely referred to as Breath of the Wild 2 until we received the offical name during a Ninendo Direct presentation held in September, 2022. We also received this gorgeous cover art to gawk over while we wait.

Gameplay

Tears of the Kingdom will utilize a similar map to Breath of the Wild that includes new areas to explore. Honestly, it appears disaster has struck, leaving Hyrule in Ruins. Sounds devastating, but this opens up the potential for different types of gameplay. For instance, the player is able to soar between floating fragments of land, a leftover idea from Breath of the Wild and a mechanic similar to Skyward Sword.

Development

Nintendo began development on the game in 2017, just after completing Breath of the Wild. And it’s only reasonable to expect the quality will be on par with or better than its predecessor since director Hidemaro Fujibayashi and producer Eiji Aonuma have both retained their positions for the new project.

Release

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is set to be released on May 12, 2023, barring any delays. According to Nintendo, everything is on schedule, so let’s hope things stay that way.

Trailers

Outside of these few facts, there’s a lot that’s up for debate if you watch the three trailers. Feel free to argue in the comments. Whether it be the appearance of Ganondorf or the ability to play as Princess Zelda. But without further ado:

Some early favorites include Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, Road Rash II, and Super Mario World. As the 3D revolution took hold in the late 1990s, my interest in video games waned while my interest in music grew. Then around 2007, I started recollecting some old favorites which led to discovering classics I missed out on. The casual hobby snowballed into a full-blown obsession, and it became my mission to make up for years of lost gaming.
