By 1990, North America had more than bounced back from the video game crash, due in large part the overwhelming success of the Nintendo Entertainment System. Meanwhile, NBC’s teen sitcom Saved by the Bell was becoming a pop culture phenomenon, gracing its young actors with newfound stardom. One such actor, Dustin Diamond – who played the show’s geeky character “Screech” (and sadly passed away in 2021) – made a guest appearance on a TV show called Video Power, which focuses on video gaming. In the clip, Diamond chats with host Johnny Arcade about which games he enjoys and even reveals the one that got him into gaming.
We’re not sure exactly when this aired, but Video Power ran from 1990 to 1992, which explains the style and production value. We did you the courtesy of starting the clip where Diamond’s segment begins so you don’t have to suffer through the painful Ed Grimley impersonation used to explain Wheel of Fortune for the Game Boy. But if you’re brave enough, you can rewind the video to the start.
