Combining white knuckle racing with intense weapon combat, 2010’s Blur is game that never really got the appreciation it deserves. Developed by Bizarre Creations and published by Activision,

it was released for Xbox 360, PS3, and Windows with high expectations. Its gameplay is reminiscent of the Mario Kart series, but it boasts a more realistic visual style and includes real-world cars licensed by well known auto manufacturers.

The player is able to choose from cars such as a Chevrolet Camaro, Volkswagen Beetle, or even a Rat Rod. A single-player career mode is guided along by none other than real life driver, Danica Patrick, helping racers learn the ropes. The player will compete in levels based on real world locations to earn ‘fan points’ which unlock upgrades and additional cars. But like any good racing game, multiplayer mode is where it shines! It’s got the perfect pick-up-and-play sensibilityt paired with flashy visuals and full-throttle energy. Grab some friends, pick a car, and go to town in split-screen mode, which allows up to four players. It also features an online multiplayer mode allows up to twenty racers at a time.

Fans and critics alike had high praises for the title, but sales were ultimately disappointing, and developer Bizarre Creations shut down the following year. Plans for Blur 2 were scrapped as a result, so it will likely never receive the follow-up it desperately deserves. So although slept on in its time, you should do yourself a favor and burn some rubber in Blur.

A North Texas native, I was born in '80s and grew up '90s playing a hefty amount of NES, Sega Genesis, and SNES. Some early favorites include Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, Road Rash II, and Super Mario World. As the 3D revolution took hold in the late 1990s, my interest in video games waned while my interest in music grew. Then around 2007, I started recollecting some old favorites which led to discovering classics I missed out on. The casual hobby snowballed into a full-blown obsession, and it became my mission to make up for years of lost gaming.
