Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered is a 2019 action-adventure game developed by Saber Interactive and published by Mad Dog Games. It’s a remaster of the 2009 game Ghostbusters: The Video Game, initially developed by Terminal Reality. Set in 1991, two years after the events of Ghostbusters II, the game follows a newly recruited member of the Ghostbusters as they battle ghosts and other supernatural entities in New York City. It prominently features voices and likenesses of the original Ghostbusters cast (OMG!) including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson. It was even written by Aykroyd and Ramis with an original story that expands on the Ghostbusters universe.

This beautiful reworking was released for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 4, 2019. It was well received by critics, who praised its gameplay, story, and faithfulness to the Ghostbusters franchise. The game was nominated for several awards, including the VGX Award for Best Game Based on a Movie or TV Show, the VGX Award for Best Cast, and the VGX Award for Best Performance by a Human Male (for Dan Aykroyd), winning for Best Cast at the VGX Awards. It was also met with commercial success, selling over three million copies worldwide. Players loved the gameplay, commending the variety of ghosts to battle and upgradable weapons. Fans also enjoyed the story and the opportunity to expand on Ghostbusters mythology.

Overall, Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered is a faithful and enjoyable remaster of a classic game. It is a must-play for fans of the Ghostbusters franchise, and it is also a great game for anyone who enjoys action-adventure games. In this writers opinion, it’s actually good enough to replace Ghostbusters II in the film trilogy. Harold Ramis had always meant wanted the Ghostbusters to face Gozer in each movie, but the studio wanted something different on the second film. The original Ghostbusters movie, this game, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife when seen/played in order gel together really well and are probably the closest thing we will get to the late Harold Ramis’ vision for his franchise.
