As most fans have already heard, Charles Martinet, the longtime in-game voice actor for Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi is stepping into a different role. He will no longer provide voice work for the games, and will instead become a Nintendo ambassador, meeting fans around the world and spreading love for the brand.
While we’re certainly happy for the legend, it’s hard to ignore the gut-punch feeling we’re left with knowing his voice will not grace upcoming releases. We’re not the only ones feeling sentimental about the change either. Nintendo of America tweeted out a heartfelt video featuring Martinet and Mario creator, Shigeru Miyamoto. It’s a short, but moving message conveying Martinet’s excitement for the upcoming position, and Miyamoto takes a moment to thank the voice actor for his hefty contributions. It’s okay if you tear up a little.
