Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the most anticipated video games of 2023, and for good reason. The first game was a critical and commercial success, so fans are eager to see what Insomniac Games has in store for the sequel. The most recent PlayStation State of Play event on September 14th featured a new trailer for the upcoming game, which is scheduled to be released on October 20, 2023, exclusively on PlayStation 5. This latest preview revealed a number of previously unseen details about the game, including new villains, new suits, and new gameplay features. Here’s what we know so far:

Villains

The trailer confirmed that Venom will be the main villain in Spider-Man 2. Venom is a symbiote, a powerful alien parasite that bonds with a human host. The symbiote grants the host superhuman strength, speed, and durability, but it also corrupts their mind. It is unclear who will be the host of the Venom symbiote in the sequel, but it is sure to be a formidable opponent for Spider-Man and Miles.

In addition to Venom, Kraven the Hunter and Lizard were also confirmed as villains in the sequel. Kraven is a skilled hunter who is obsessed with defeating Spider-Man, while Lizard is a former scientist who was transformed into a reptilian creature after a failed experiment.

It is unclear how these villains will tie into the main story, but they are sure to provide a challenge for Spider-Man and Miles.

That Sweet Spidey Drip

The trailer revealed a number of new suits that Spider-Man and Miles will be able to wear in the game. One of the most notable new suits is Peter’s black and red suit, which gives him enhanced strength and durability. Miles’ new suit is black and blue, and it gives him the ability to camouflage himself.

In addition to their new suits, both Peter and Miles will also have access to a variety of other suits, including some that are based on their looks from the comics and movies. There will be 65 of these new suits with variant color schemes.

The Action

The trailer also revealed a number of new gameplay features that will be available in Spider-Man 2. One of the most notable new features is the ability to switch between Peter and Miles at any time. This feature and its fluidity is one of the many reasons this game can only be played on PS5, and not PS4.

Finally, the trailer also revealed that Spider-Man 2 will feature a new combat and glide system. The new combat system is more fluid and dynamic than the combat system in the first game. It also features new abilities for both Peter and Miles, such as Peter’s Venom Strike and Miles’ bio-electric shield. The glide system is a new mechanic added to the popular swinging mechanic. Players will be able to glide (almost fly) through the air between swings.

Even More Deets

In addition to the new villains, suits, and gameplay features, the trailer also revealed a few other details about Spider-Man 2.

One detail is that the game will feature a new open world that is larger and more detailed than the open world in the first game. The new world will include new neighborhoods such as Brooklyn, to explore, as well as new landmarks and crime activities.

Another detail is that the sequel will explore the relationship between Peter and Miles in more depth. In the first game, Miles was still learning how to be a superhero. In the sequel, it is likely that we will see Miles grow as a character and become a full-fledged partner to Peter.

Finally, it is also possible that the sequel will introduce new Marvel characters. In the trailers, we see Peter and Miles interacting with Harry Osborn, who is one of Peter’s best friends in the comics. Harry Osborn eventually becomes the Green Goblin, so it is possible that he could play a major role in the sequel.

Overall, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is shaping up to be a must-play superhero fans and open world video game fans alike. With its new story, new roster of villains, fancy new suits, intriguing new abilities, and impressive new open world, the sequel is sure to be a more robust experience than its predecessors. Get your preorders ready! The game is expected to release on October 20th. Preorders come with instant unlock gadgets, skill points, and those heavily coveted, Spidey suits!
